Endodontics

Information for new patients

You have been referred to this office by your dentist because your problem in one that can best be solved by Endodontic care (root canal therapy). Our office deals with this phase of dental treatment and no other.

Why Endodontics may be necessary

The inside of a tooth can become diseased or infected from four main causes.
  1. Decay
  2. A very deep filling
  3. Periodontal disease (gum disease)
  4. A severe blow to the tooth such as a fall or auto accident

Any one of these causes may result in swelling and pain. Or sometimes, a slow, painless degeneration may occur. These events eventually cause destruction of the bone of the tooth socket and an abcess.

The goal of root canal therapy is to remove the source of the infection from within the tooth. Once this is done and the destructive process stopped, your normal healing can then take over.

What is involved in Treatment?

Modern Endodontics is usually painless and uncomplicated and no harder than a dental visit for a large filling. Local anesthesia is often used but may not be required for every case.
